Important Information that Helps Us
-
Do not forget about
items in your loft, cellar, shed, outhouse or garage.
-
Please let us know
about any difficulty at the destination i.e. parking problems for
large vehicles.
-
Please make sure we
can contact you should you be in transit as we move your goods i.e.
mobile phone numbers and if possible provide us with the name and
telephone number of someone at the destination we are delivering to.
-
Do let us know if your
new home has steps up to it, narrow or difficult staircases, any
difficult access i.e. over grass or up narrow pathways some distance
from where the vehicle will be parked.
Important Documents
Remember keep these
with you i.e. passports, certificates, driving licences etc. and any
things that need moving should be in a box clearly marked.
Also keep hold of phone and laptop chargers as you could need to use
these.
Medications
Ensure that any
medication that will or might be needed is with you and not
packed.
Appliances
Cookers, washing
machines, fridges, freezers and dishwashers should be clean,
defrosted, empty and drained of water. Please disconnect prior
to the move.
Garage Contents and Tools
Please ensure that all
tools are clean and remember that we will not move flammable
materials. Make sure that petrol is drained from petrol driven
mowers and machinery.
Packing
If we are packing for you,
it does help if you have things ready for us and items such as china,
ornaments out ready for packing.
If you are doing the
packing, we can provide boxes and garment boxes. Clothes can be
packed into wardrobe boxes and thus left on their hangers. If you have your
own boxes, please ensure that these are strong enough and that
sufficient wrapping is placed around delicate objects. Please do
not overload the boxes as these have to be carried and also there is the
risk of breakage. Some items, particularly books, can be very
heavy once packed, so do not use big boxes for these. Remember
someone has to lift them! It helps to label the boxes clearly as
then you will be able to identify these at destination.
Make sure you keep all
important documents with you i.e. passports, driving licences, birth,
marriage certificates etc. If these are packed away it could be
difficult for you.

Children and Pets
Children and particularly
small ones, are better out of the way of furniture and objects being
moved. It is best for them to be left with a friend or neighbour
or otherwise kept in a room where they can play safely.
A house move is a
frightening event for dogs and cats so we recommend ensuring their
safety by either leaving them with a friend or in a kennel or cattery.
If this is impossible put them in a secure room with a notice on the
door saying that the pet is in there and better still put your cat or
dog in a suitable pet crate or animal cage. It is dangerous
for our staff to have stressed animals running around which could cause an
accident and also there is the risk of your pet being so scared that
they will run away. Ensure that your pet has identification i.e. collar
and name tag displaying your name and contact telephone number and also
destination address so that if they escape from your vehicle during the
move they can be found and you can be contacted. In all the
business of the move never forget them and make sure that they have sufficient water and food and are
checked on regularly. If you are concerned about moving your pet
contact your vet for advice. You are responsible for your pets,
their welfare and the consequences of them panicking.
Aquariums are difficult to
move when full of water and in fact can break, fall over and cause
damage, so please put the fish in small travelling
aquariums or large, strong plastic bags which have sufficient air in the
top. We suggest you take the advice of your aquatic
supplier.
If moving abroad, you must
ensure that your pets meet the expected standard of the country in
question. Paperwork needs to be completed by the States Vet in
advance of the move. For cats and dogs, you will need a pet's
passport and a microchip implanted. We suggest
you discuss this with your vet well before the move. We do not
transport animals and suggest that you contact the ferry company or
airline with
whom you are travelling for advice and speak to your vet.
Plants
Water these the day
before and make sure that the pots are well drained. It is a good
idea to put the pots into a plastic bin liner to prevent any water
or soil leakage. Put small pot plants into a plastic lined
box. We do not store plants.
